WHO ARE WE

The Health Equity Action Research Team (HEART) focuses on community engagement, research, health professional education, health care practices, as well as health policy and governance through inter-disciplinary and inter-sectoral partnerships, toward the goal of achieving health equity, with specific focus on addressing the needs of Indigenous, immigrant and refugee populations.

Our vision is to achieve equity in health and health care for diverse populations.

Our mission is to identify, implement and evaluate ways to improve health equity, through both service improvements and linkages to address gaps.

G O A L S

The Health Equity Action Research Team (HEART) focuses on community engagement, research, health professional education, health care practices, as well as health policy and governance through inter-disciplinary and inter-sectoral partnerships, toward the goal of achieving health equity, with specific focus on addressing the needs of Indigenous, immigrant and refugee populations.

Western University is located on the traditional territories of the Anishinaabeg, Haudenosaunee, Lenaapeewak, and Attawandaron peoples. The three local First Nations communities in proximity to the university are: Chippewa of the Thames First Nation, Oneida Nation of the Thames, and Munsee-Delware Nation.
